Public Notice: Walnut Street Bridge Renovation & Potential Coolidge Park Impacts

The City of Chattanooga - Department of Public Works in coordination with the Tennessee Department of Transportation is proposing to renovate the Walnut Street Pedestrian Bridge.  Please see this PUBLIC NOTICE for information on potential impacts to Coolidge Park.  Tentavely, construction is set to begin in Fall 2021, subject to change.  

 
Parks and Golf Courses Update Regarding COVID-19 - updated 3/20/19

The City is taking precautions and implementing strategies recommended by the CDC to prevent the potential spread and to lessen the impact of the coronavirus on the Greater Chattanooga area. Per the Mayor’s statement, effective March 14, City of Chattanooga Parks reservations are suspended until May 12th. While all parks are open to the public during normal dawn to dusk hours, the following amenities are closed: 

  • Coolidge Park Carousel
  • Walker Pavilion
  • All playgrounds
  • Chattown Skate Park, including outdoor hockey rink
  • Ballfields, soccer fields, and basketball courts
  • Adult fitness areas

Parks continue to be a great outlet for mental and health welness in Chattanooga. The City has joined more than 500 National Recreation and Parks Association groups nationwide to support the safe use of parks during the COVID-19 outbreak. Please follow these precautions when visiting parks and playing golf:

  • Do not visit parks or golf courses if you are exhibiting symptoms. 
  • Follow CDC's guidance on personal hygiene prior to visiting. 
  • Be prepared for limited acces to facilities. 
  • Share the trail and warn other trail users of your presence as you pass. 
  • Observe CDC's minimum recommended social distancing of 6' from other persons at all times. 

The Brainerd and Brown Acres Golf Courses are open. Visit http://www.chattanooga.gov/general-services/public-golf-courses for information and to reserve a tee time.

Stringers Ridge Trail Closures

Due to a mudslide during storms in February of 2019, the following sections of Stringers Ridge are currently closed:

  • Cherokee Trail from Bell Ave trailhead to Baldydash
  • Valdeau Crossing Trail.
  • Bell Ave parking area.

The City encourages trail users to park at Spears Ave & enter trails from there.
