East Lake Park Reopens

EL Ribbon Cutting

After nearly $3 million in renovations, Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke and the East Lake Neighborhood Association will hold a grand re-opening of East Lake Park on Saturday, February 8 at 11 a.m.

Known as the city’s first park, the 18.5-acre East Lake Park has a history dating back to the 1800’s, previously serving as a zoo, a greenhouse and an urban fishing destination. Improvements to the park include water quality improvements, new lighting, additional parking, a boardwalk with overlook, modernized walkways, new playground area and various educational interaction points throughout the park.

Renovations to the park were also made possible by grants from the Lyndhurst Foundation and Tennessee American Water.

Stringers Ridge Trail Closures

Due to a mudslide during storms in February of 2019, the following sections of Stringers Ridge are currently closed:

  • Cherokee Trail from Bell Ave trailhead to Baldydash
  • Valdeau Crossing Trail.
  • Bell Ave parking area.

The City encourages trail users to park at Spears Ave & enter trails from there.
