Wilcox Tunnel Work is Complete. The tunnel reopened April 4, 2016

The project included concrete and leak repair, safety improvements, lighting upgrades and a new tunnel liner that will be brighter and easier to clean.

We knew that we would be unable to make the whole tunnel completely dry, but we were able to get it 99% dry through a lot of work and some new techniques, including epoxy resin as well as foam injection to close up cracks and joints in the concrete. Oftentimes upon closing up a leak, a new source of water would emerge several feet away that would have to be filled or closed. And, at 1/4 mile long with the amount of leakage and dampness that we started with, to get the tunnel as dry as we have is a significant accomplishment. Our team has kept its focus and done a good job of getting the tunnel dry for the new liner. The spray-on liner included application of three coats. The result is a tunnel that is brighter, safer, and easier to keep clean.
